I am still working through all the things that occurred last year and this particular one come to me while I was dusting off my bookshelf — which I absolutely love btw… and if you thinking I am weird for loving a bookshelf well its one that I designed and that my husband crafted, but that is a post for a different day.

Now on to my list which is really in no particular order:

  1. Elevation by Stephen King — probably the fastest read on my list this year, I grabbed this book off my shelf after dinner and was done in time for bed, no sweat. It definitely grabbed me at the beginning and couldn’t [ut it down.
  2. The Book of Longing by Sue Monk Kidd — A new take on the story of Jesus which is in the point of view of his wife (shocked face). Regardless it touches on stories from the Bible but really its about an incredible woman finding her way in a patriarchial society.
  3. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon — The quintessential young adult novel of the year (or maybe it was of 2019) but regardless it was turned into a movie. Its a quick story about two teens connecting in an unlikely way at an inconvenient time.
  4. Circe by Madeline Miller — A take on a classic greek tale. This book is a fast one since its not written in ancient greek. If you like mythology then this one is probably for you.
  5. The Song of Achille by Madeline Miller — I liked Circe so much I decided to follow it with the second book. If I had to pick I probably like this one slightly better.
  6. Golden State by Ben H Winters — This book was a new take on the futuristic dystopian society. In a perfect world the truth needs to be uncovered.
  7. Shrill by Lindy West — Definitely the funniest book I read all year. If you are lady or aren’t afraid of hearing about the lady problems then you need to pick this up.
  8. A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum — Not a lite read…this novel is thick with history and customs and the realities of overcoming them in a modern world.
  9. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides — Completely unexepcted. This book is a great thriller that will keep you on your toes! I got done with it and thought to myself, maybe I should read this again to see if I missed some crucial elements.
  10. Carve the Mark by Roth — Another YA book series, what can I say other than I like light reading I guess. Two people unrleated there fates decided at birth discovering their world and colliding of course.
  11. The Fates Divide by Roth —the second one that follows the first one ;)
  12. A dictionary of Mutual Understanding — A historical fiction, there is something touching to me about the story of WWII told from the perspective of someone who grew up in a town devasted by the Nuclear bomb.
  13. Oasis by Katya de Becerra — This book didn’t go at all where I was expecting. A lot of twist and turns to follow only to get to the end and scratch you head about missing something. Definitely needs to be a double read.
  14. Before She Knew him by Peter Swanson — A mystery and a smart woman who solves it…I quick read for a weekend.

15 thru 21 is the Sarah J. Maas binge the with Throne of Glass Series. Suffice it to say that they are long books but they read quickly and who doesn’t like a kick ass heroine?!?

Throne of Glass

Crown of Midnight

Heir of Fire

Queen of Shadows

Empire of Storms

Tower of Dawn

Kingdom of Ash

Wew, I guess I can’t count…but none the less I hope that you enjoyed this little journey that I took us on. More serious business coming next week again though.
